Nick Kyrgios Becomes Unranked For First Time Since Becoming Professional

As of the most recent update in the ATP Rankings, Nick Kyrgios is not a ranked player anymore, dropping all of his points.

The Australian Maverick is one of the most talented players on the ATP Tour, yet even the best can't sometimes avoid injuries. And that's one of the reasons why Kyrgios can't compete right now.

The last points he accumulated came at the 2022 Japan Open, which is held during the week between October 16th and 22nd in 2023. That means, that as soon as the event started and the draw was released without the Australian, it was clear that he would become unranked.

That became reality with the latest ATP Rankings as the 2022 Wimbledon finalist lost all of his points from the last year's tournament, meaning that his total dropped to 0, making him unranked on the ATP Tour, something that Roger Federer experienced before, and that Rafael Nadal will likely experience too.

Kyrgios' journey in the rankings has been really interesting when he climbed up to 25th spot in 2015, and improved it to year-end no. 13 in 2016, but he never managed to improve that, hovering around the 20th spot for the majority of his career.

In 2023, the Australian started the season as world no. 21, reaching his season peak at position no. 19, but with no playing time, his ranking started dropping quickly.

And while Kyrgios can anticipate a difficult journey up, receiving wild cards from tournaments will certainly help him in that. The Australian is one of the most popular tennis players, and his popularity, and also qualities, will grant him a spot in many tournament.

Moreover, on the same day that he became unranked, one of his best friends on the ATP Tour, Thanasi Kokkinakis reached his new career-high, 68th place, eight years after previously climbing to spot no. 69.
