Nadal 'Not 100% Sure' If He Will Play At Australian Open After Brisbane Injury Scare

Rafael Nadal is not sure he'll play at the 2024 Australian Open after the most recent injury scare at the Brisbane International.

Rafael Nadal returned to tennis at the ATP 250 tournament in Brisbane after missing almost the entire 2023 season. It was a hip injury that forced him to abandon his plans, and he felt the pain again against Jordan Thompson.

It was a competitive match which Nadal could have won, but he wasted three match points. Late in the final set, the Spaniard felt his hip again and called for a medical timeout but finished the match standing.

After the match, Nadal spoke about his experience this week and what the coming weeks might look like in light of this most recent development.

It's a beginning. I didn't play a tournament for such a long time. Even without playing a tournament, is not that I am practicing at the highest level for four months, no? As I said, the last month have been quite good in terms of intensity, but is not a long period of time.

The injury scare is a serious setback but it might be nothing. It might be something, it is just impossible to know at this very moment and that's how Nadal approached it as well.

His hope is that everything will be fine and that he'll play in Melbourne, but he can't put a number on it, especially not the 100% one.

I don't know. I mean, I hope is not important and I hope to have the chance to be practicing next week and to play Melbourne. Honestly, I am not 100% sure of anything now.

Expect more news to come out in the coming days and then an official announcement by Nadal if the news is bad. Hopefully, it's not and we see him playing in Melbourne. He'd be a great addition to the event.
