Holger Rune dismissed talks about forming the next Big Three with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
The 20-year-old Dane is one of the most ambitious players on the ATP Tour, but at the same time, he's very humble and respects the legends of the game. Some of those legends are also Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer, called the Big Three.
When Carlos Alcaraz started making moves on the ATP Tour, his great performances were joined by Rune and Jannik Sinner, tennis fans couldn't help themselves but start talking about a new Big Three.
But Rune stays really humble, and even though he appreciates being included in such a debate, he doesn't really want to rush things as he's yet to win a Grand Slam. A recent Queen's Club semifinalist spoke to Firstsportz and the next Big Three was one of the topics.
"Big 3 means 20-25 Grand Slams. It’s a little early to start talking big 3 before we even win grand slams on a regular basis. But for sure it’s a compliment people are saying this and that’s nice."
At the upcoming Wimbledon, Rune may face the seven-time champion Novak Djokovic who will be eyeing his 24th Grand Slam. Asked about possibly facing the Serb, the youngster reminded that only recently he recorded his first-ever grass-court win.
"I didn’t win a grass match before this year, now in Queen’s. So to put me as a challenge to Novak is maybe more of a dream. Still, we always hope dreams can come true. And work for it. Let’s see."
When asked about who he likes to face the most, the Dane answered in a way that many fans would like him to answer. The matches between the two Top 10 players are something that fans enjoy watching, and Rune apparently enjoys playing them.
"I like to play the top 10. It’s challenging and brings out the best matches on both sides of the net usually."
