Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas showed that they are both really good people as they put their differences aside.
In the past, the two had a few disagreements. It all reached the boiling point in the third round of the 2022 Wimbledon, when Tsitsipas and Kyrgios met in a high-stakes match, which proved to be a really heated battle.
Tsitsipas hit one of the fans while his opponent demanded a default and after the match, the Greek didn't have really nice words towards his opponent, and Kyrgios didn't hold back in a response.
All of that created maybe a bit of unnecessary drama as the two exchanged some messages through social media for some time. Finally, it seemed that the waters were calmer again, but that was only until the Netflix's Break Point was released.
In the latest episodes, Tsitsipas called Kyrgios uneducated, and the words really backfired. Right after the episode aired, he called out Netflix for creating drama and gossip, but after he was accused of racism towards the Australian, he had to release a statement.
His statement was a really long one, touching, and detailed. The Greek apologized for his words, explaining that they were interpreted in a different way than he meant them. A part of the statement reads:
"My previous remarks regarding Nick Kyrgios were not meant to undermine his intelligence or abilities. Instead, I simply intended to express my perspective on certain aspects of his playing style, drawing comparisons to the passion and intensity often associated with basketball. It was an attempt to highlight the dynamic and captivating nature of his approach to the game, not a criticism of his character or capabilities."
Kyrgios saw the statement on social media, and he responded to it in a very heartwarming way. The Australian acknowledged his rival's statement, knowing that the words that the two have said came from the place of coming into a press conference after a heated battle.
"It was a very heated battle. Sometimes as players we go into these press conferences without digesting the match…. We’ve had some crazy battles and I know deep down you like my brand of tennis. We are all good Stefanos."
