Alexander Zverev suffered a horror injury at the 2022 Roland Garros against Rafael Nadal, but according to Tommy Haas, the German will not have to wait a long time until he is back.
It was a tumble and a scream that had everyone who was watching on tenterhooks, not knowing how seriously he had injured his ankle on the Court Phillipe Chatrier when Zverev painfully went down in his face-off with Nadal.
Unable to walk following the accident, the German was wheeled off the court, only adding to everyone's concerns. He quickly underwent scans to ascertain the gravity of the problem.
After identifying the injury, work to get the German back to full fitness as quickly as possible was the priority. And the following weeks and months side-lined, questions are starting to be raised over a potential return for the one-time US Open finalist.
Despite losing that final, he has recently been tipped to claim his first one in the coming years. What remains to be seen is how this injury will affect his play and, therefore, his chances of getting a coveted Grand Slam.
However, for some, we should soon know just how much the injury has affected the German's game. According to former ATP player Tommy Haas, Zverev will not have to wait a long time before once again gracing the courts.
"After that you have to regain your confidence and strength. However, he has a good environment and I'm sure he won't have to wait long before he comes back to the top of the world."
Going on to talk about what the future holds for his compatriot, Haas seemed optimistic about Zverev's chances to claim the biggest titles.
"Suddenly you're in your late 20s and still don't have a title, but I wouldn't bet against him under any circumstances. After torn ligaments in the semi-finals of the French Open, he has just had to take a longer break for the first time."
