Mats Wilander is amazed by the emergence of Carlos Alcaraz, and he is not alone, as the Spaniard amazed many this season by winning two ATP 1000 trophies already.

Alcaraz has emerged as a superstar on the ATP Tour in 2022, and his rise has been fascinating to watch. There have been many comparisons made in the past months to all top players ranging from Rafael Nadal to Novak Djokovic.

Some see Nadal's fighting spirit in the youngster, while others see Djokovic's intelligence in him. Then, there are also those who see Roger Federer's beauty of play in him.

Mats Wilander, who is a former World No. 1 player and currently works as an analyst for Eurosport, explained how Alcaraz emerged as the leader of a new generation.

"It is not that we were waiting for him because it is true that Stefanos (Tsitsipas), Daniil Medvedev, who is very different from the rest, and Alexander Zverev were already there."
"We had a good mix of styles and ways of playing. So does Rublev, who I would say is the Hewitt of this generation. Suddenly Alcaraz has appeared, who plays very differently from any of those mentioned."

Wilander also explained that while Alcaraz possesses parts of the games of the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev, he also has the very unique traits that make him special.

"He can do the things that Tsitsipas does, such as catch the ball very soon, play aggressively; he can be as solid as Zverev; maybe he can't do what Medvedev does, because only he does according to what things..."
"But Carlos has the resource of the left-offs and the attitude that makes him different from the rest of the young people. I never saw anyone with their way of acting and their freshness."
"He is always inside the game, he is emotional, but at the same time he looks at his bench with a good attitude. Look at Ferrero and they laugh for a point or a blow."

At the same time, Wilander explained that he doesn't want Alcaraz to be like Federer, Nadal, or Djokovic. He wants him to be like who he is, and that's Carlos Alcaraz.

"He is relaxed on the court, the feeling contrary to when you see Nadal on the track, he never seems to be relaxed and he has the best attitude I have ever seen. Carlos teaches everything positive he has inside with his body language."
"This is something that is difficult to learn, I suppose he is like that, although Ferrero may have advised him that it is what he has to project in the face of the rival."
"I love how he acts, it is very important for tennis that there is a player who seems to be enjoying himself so much, who likes to compete so much and who hates to lose."
"It's like the example to follow: I don't want you to be like Nadal, like Federer or Djokovic, I want you to be Alcaraz because he has it all."
