'His Body Is Wasted': Alcaraz's Demanding Style Will Cost Him Says Djokovic's Ex-Coach

The former coach of Novak Djokovic, Nikola Pilic, doesn't see Carlos Alcaraz playing the way he does now, as his body will fall apart.

Carlos Alcaraz brings a lot of raw power to the tennis court, and while it's not just about power, he spends a lot of energy in most of his matches.

It's just a very attacking style of tennis, very physical with little holding back. It's very effective, which is why he's arguably the best young player we've had in years, but is it sustainable is the question.

Many have questioned that already, especially as Alcaraz seems to be perpetually dealing with some minor injuries. He's missed quite a bit of time with regular injuries as well, and the former coach of Novak Djokovic, Nikola Pilic, who spoke to Vecernje Novosti, doesn't see it working out long-term.

"When Carlos Alcaraz won Madrid, I said that he was the de facto heir of the 'Big 3'. But are you going to tell me that he will play for another 12 years like today? He's strong, and he's a good player, like it. But, his body is wasted, that is true. How many injuries has he had so far. Regardless, he plays great."

Pilic is not the first one to really express the concenrn. Bodies tend to break down, and we've seen it in the past. Rafael Nadal had people talking a similar way many years ago, but he's managed to put together an epic career.

Andy Murray likely destroyed his career by pushing for the world's number-one spot in 2016, so it's not like it didn't happen before. Being as injured as Alcaraz has been a worry expressed by several people so it's not the first time it's been said either. Time will ultimately tell best, but as Pilic said, outside of the injuries, he's a really great player.
