Andy Murray will be making a return to the Australian Open as his coach, Ivan Lendl, declared that he’s ready for the event.
Murray has high hopes for the 2023 season, and to try and make that year quite memorable, the British player linked up with his former coach, Ivan Lendl. They’ve worked together a couple of times in the past, with Murray possibly playing his best tennis under the American coach.
While he’s not the same player anymore with more injuries on his back and more years as well, Murray does somehow find his best tennis under Lendl. Something just works, and they’ll be giving it another go in 2023.
This past season was good enough for the Brit but a far cry from his best results on the ATP Tour. Murray certainly believes himself capable of more, even though proof of that must come on the tennis courts.
In a talk with tennis journalist Craig Shapiro, Lendl confirmed that Murray would be playing at the 2023 Australian Open after undergoing a lengthy boot camp in Florida, where Lendl currently lives.
"He's there, he's ready. It's him who has to say what he's going to do, but I worked with him for 20 days, late November until December 10th, in Boca, and I saw zero signs that it's a farewell tour. I wouldn't be there if it was."
Murray will start his 2023 season in Auckland, hoping to get in a few matches before he moves onto the Australian Open. Fans, though, are mostly thrilled with Lendl's positive remarks on the preseason they had together.
It shows a lot of optimism in his camp. As the former legendary player said, he wouldn’t be working with him if this was a farewell tour for Murray, and very likely it’s not, even though with his list of injuries, anything can happen at any moment.
