Marian Vajda and Novak Djokovic stopped working together a while ago, and the coach spoke about the decision during a press conference in Slovakia.
Vajda has been Djokovic's coach for the majority of his professional life. The Slovakian coach is widely credited with helping the Serbian become as good as he is today, and the pair is often considered one of the most successful coach/player combinations of all time.
This latest split is, in fact, the second time they have parted company. The pair eventually came back to work together after their previous separation. However, this time, it appears to be for good.
When asked about the decision in his home country of Slovakia, Vajda commented his thoughts on the news.
"I don’t know for sure, because I never asked him, but I assume from my analysis of his tournament schedule, that he wanted to reduce his team, and he chose Goran Ivanisevic. It did not make sense for a coach to coach him only him on Grand Slams, because a coach needs a long-term plan"
He was asked if he proposed a solution where he would only coach Djokovic during the Grand Slams, but Vajda admitted now knowing because he has not yet been asked.
It certainly appears that the Serbian's decision is final, as he likely wants to focus his efforts on continuing his domination of the tennis world with Goran Ivanisevic.
The Serbian's immediate team has long been a topic of conversation in the world of tennis, with him having coaches coming and going in recent years. What is for sure, however, is that Djokovic knows what is right for himself at this moment in his career.
He has adjudged that the two should split in order for him to continue at the top of the game and win Grand Slams.
