Novak Djokovic is one of the best players of all time, but very few people know what he’s like away from the courts.
Eugene Lapierre has served as a Canadian Open tournament director for many years, and he has now decided to share some experiences with Djokovic.
The Serbian player is mostly known for his tennis. While earlier in his career he was known for doing impressions of other players and some other funny moments, the Serbian these days is known mostly for being one of the best players in the world.
Less is known about how he acts off the court, even though Djokovic grants a decent amount of access to himself through various means. Someone who has known him well over the years is Eugene Lapierre. Lapierre recently talked about what Djokovic is like away from the courts in an interview.
"The nickname 'Djoker,' which Serbian Novak Djokovic inherited very early in his career, suits him perfectly. He always wants to please the public in different ways. He dances with the ball hunters on the field."
Djokovic has shown glimpses of his fun personality a couple of times over the years. His fans are well aware of that, even though many fans might be unfamiliar with the fact that behind that stoic face, there is a bubbly personality who gets along well with lots of people.
Lapierre also shared one instance when Djokovic asked for a Segway, which was an oddly specific request. It’s not the most convenient way of transportation in the world either, but it shows Djokovic’s fun-loving personality well.
"At one point, he asked me if we could get him a Segway (a small two-wheeled vehicle) so he could get around the site. We couldn't find any, and anyway, his agent said, 'Never!' He is very nice to everyone. He is a teaser who always wants to make people laugh."
