Similarly to their previous two meetings, Novak Djokovic didn't leave a lot of breathing space for Yoshihito Nishioka in the first round of the 2022 Roland Garros.
The experienced Serbian player entered the clay-court Grand Slam as the top seed and defending champion on the Parisian clay after he lifted his second French Open title last year.
His first opponent was Yoshihito Nishioka from Japan, and in their first two meetings, the Japanese player never won more than three games in a set against the Serbian, and that didn't change in Paris this year.
Djokovic spent only two hours on the tennis court during his first-round victory as he moved to the second round at the 2022 Roland Garros.
Although the Serbian made the same amount of unforced errors as his opponent during the match, he hit twice as many winners and nine aces, which led to a comfortable three-set victory.
Earlier during this day of play, Rafael Nadal lost six games during his win in the first round, but his biggest rival showed an even more impressive performance, losing only four games.
In the first set, Nishioka had a chance to break the World No. 1 in the very first game of the match, but couldn't do so as Djokovic used his chance in the sixth game to take a 4-2 lead and eventually win the set 6-3.
Djokovic continued his great performance also in the second set as he broke his opponent's service game three times and was already serving for a 6-0 win in the set, but he lost his serve and eventually won the second set 6-1.
In the third set, however, he succeeded in delivering a bagel to his opponent as he triumphed 6-3, 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the second round of the 2022 Roland Garros.
