Carlos Alcaraz is probably the most talented player of the upcoming generation on the ATP Tour, and he’s proving that for the second straight season.
The young Spaniard broke through last year, showing his undeniable qualities at multiple tournaments. One of those was the 2022 Madrid Open, where he managed to beat Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in back-to-back matches.
Soon after that, Alcaraz went on to win his first Grand Slam title at the 2022 US Open, which also earned him the world no. 1 rank, becoming the youngest-ever man to reach that spot on the ATP Tour.
One year later, the Spanish player is the top challenger at any tournament that he enters, and he’s on the verge of having yet another $10 million season, becoming the second player to earn eight figures in 2023 after Novak Djokovic.
The 36-year-old Serbian won $11,540,253 in prize money across 2023, while his younger Spanish rival collected $9,647,931 in paycheques so far. With the 2023 ATP Finals in Turin coming up, Alcaraz has a chance to break that $10 million mark for the second time in his career.
Last year, the Spaniard earned $10,102,330, and now he’s one victory away from earning eight figures for the second straight season. Unless he withdraws from the 2023 ATP Finals, the world no. 2 will receive $325,500 as a participation fee, and every round-robin win guarantees him another $390,000.
That means that only one round-robin win would take Alcaraz over the $10 million mark, as his total would increase to $10,363,431. Despite trailing Djokovic by quite a lot, the Spaniard also has a chance to become the top earner in 2023, as the undefeated champion at the ATP Finals is set to earn $4,801,500.
That would take the Spaniard’s earnings in 2023 to $14,449,431. With Djokovic currently at $11,540,253, all the Spaniard needs to do is win the tournament.
