Carlos Alcaraz began his 2022 Roland Garros campaign with a demolition of Argentine Juan Ignacio Londero, which took him less than two hours on the court.
Alcaraz arrived in Paris as one of the favorites to win the event. As crazy as that might sound, the Spaniard has just looked superb during this clay season, showing all of his talent with a couple of notable results, most notably winning the Madrid Open.
He bested Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in back-to-back matches to make the final of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament, in which he then easily smashed Alexander Zverev to win the trophy.
He also won the Barcelona Open, proving his talent on the red dirt. That made him one of the favorites for the French Open, and he certainly didn’t look any less imposing in his first match at the event.
It was a slower start by both players as they held their service games and nothing interesting happened until the tenth game of the first set. Alcaraz had his first breakpoint and converted it to win the first set 6-4 and start his one-man show at the 2022 Roland Garros.
In the second set, both players held their service games only until 2-2, since then, Alcaraz won all the remaining games in the match to win it 6-4, 6-2, 6-0 in an hour and 52 minutes and move to the second round in Paris.
In the second round, the sixth-seeded Spaniard will take on his fellow compatriot Albert Ramos-Vinolas who defeated Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first round.
Despite Alcaraz's short career, the two met already twice, with the younger of the two winning both duels. In Paris, Alcaraz will try to add a third victory against Ramos.
After winning the Madrid Open, Alcaraz admitted that he feels ready to win a Grand Slam and this was a good start for him.
