Novak Djokovic’s 2011 season is one of the most iconic tennis seasons ever, and one of the things he did that year was just matched by Carlos Alcaraz.

Alcaraz is one of the most electrifying tennis players to emerge in recent memory, and he doesn’t just bring excitement to the tennis court. He brings incredibly well-rounded tennis that ultimately propelled him to become the prodigy that everyone talks about.

While he has yet to crown his 2022 season with a Grand Slam, the Spaniard has done something that was last achieved by Novak Djokovic in 2011. Doing something that Djokovic did is amazing in itself, but with more context to this achievement, it becomes clear just how remarkable it truly is.

Djokovic’s 2011 season saw him win 74 matches and lose only 6 of them. The first of those losses came at Roland Garros against Roger Federer. Up until then, Djokovic was 41-0 on the season which was unheard of.

He won the Australian Open, Dubai, Indian Wells, Miami, Belgrade, Madrid, and Rome, beating his rival Rafael Nadal in back-to-back finals in Madrid and Rome. He was simply playing impossibly well and won at least one set in his first 50 matches that year.

It’s a tremendous mark of how consistent he was and how tough he was to beat, which is why Alcaraz matching that same achievement is so incredible. The Spaniard has now won at least one set in his first 50 matches in 2022, which shows just how good he is.

To go this long without dropping a match in straight sets demonstrates incredible consistency, which bodes well for his future. On top of that, he did this at age 19, compared to Djokovic, who was 24 when he had that streak.
