'Best Athlete In The World': Kyrgios Lauds Djokovic Ahead Of Australian Open

| by Jordan Reynolds

Nick Kyrgios feels no other athlete on the planet can match the abilities of Novak Djokovic, as he talked about him ahead of the 2024 Australian Open.

Kyrgios has only played one professional match in the last 12 months due to a persistent knee injury, but he is keeping busy off-court. This includes agreeing to work as a pundit at the Australian Open, where Kyrgios will have a tense reunion with Boris Becker.

That is not all, though. Kyrgios is also launching a new podcast with Naomi Osaka's production company. There have been many high-profile guests confirmed, including celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey and boxer Mike Tyson.

The guest list also includes Djokovic, whom Kyrgios interviewed during an open practice session at Rod Laver Arena for fans to enjoy.

Kyrgios recently appeared on comedian and former host of the Daily Show Trevor Noah's podcast and said Djokovic is the best athlete because, as a tennis player, he has to deal with factors other athletes do not.

"I think Novak is the best athlete in the world because his ability to adapt is like no other.  Every other athlete in the world knows when they're going to start, they know when they're going to finish. They know how many games are going to be played."

The 2022 Wimbledon runner-up then elaborated slightly more on how difficult it is to prepare due to the uncertainty that tennis players deal with.

"More than half the time, you don't even know when you're going to start. You don't know when to eat, you don't know when you're going to finish. It's hard to plan or it's insane."

Kyrgios is undoubtedly correct that the tennis scoring system makes it difficult for players to prepare perfectly for matches. Does that make Djokovic the greatest athlete ever? It is certainly an interesting debate.
