It seems that every week Andy Murray plays better and better as the Scot defeated world number 5, Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach the semifinals at the 2022 Stuttgart Open.
The former world number 1 started his grass-court preparation already last week in Surbiton where he reached semifinals before eventually losing to Denis Kudla. This week, he defeated Christopher O'Connell, Alexander Bublik and the first-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach the 2022 Stuttgart Open semifinals.
During the first set, the Greek player didn't lose a single point on 4 out of 6 of his service games. He also had a set point in the twelfth game of the set, but his opponent denied it and the set reached the tie-break. Both players continued in solid serving as fans saw only mini break which was obtained by Murray who won the first set 7-4 in the tie-break in 58 minutes.
After long wait, fans got to see a break in the match. In the sixth game of the second set, the Scot was pushing his opponent to the limits from the start of the game and eventually forced one breakpoint which he successfully converted to get a crucial lead in the set.
Murray then showed his qualities as he held his serve in all of his remaining service games to win the match 7-6(4), 6-3 and advance into the 2022 Stuttgart Open semifinals. He will meet the winner of the match between Marton Fucsovics and Nick Kyrgios, who is a very difficult opponent on any surface, but especially on grass.
