Andy Murray & Holger Rune Sign Up To Play Doubles Together Before Australian Open

by Zachary Wimer

The new season is only a little over a week away, and we have our first interesting doubles pairing as Holger Rune and Andy Murray will play at the 2024 Brisbane International together.

The start of the new season is a very interesting time as a lot of players are aiming to play as many matches as possible before the Australian Open. There are only two weeks before the event, so a lot of them resort to all sorts of tricks to get into match shape.

Obviously, some of the better ones expect to win at least a few matches, which helps them get ready. Those who aren't as lucky usually have to settle for one or two, depending on how well they perform.

Due to that, some of the players opt to play doubles as well, as it's a pretty decent way of playing yourself into fitness. It's not as demanding as singles tennis, and losing doesn't hurt as much.

It's probably why both Andy Murray and Holger Rune opted to play some doubles at the start of the year. Murray and Rune both will play singles in Brisbane, and they teamed up in the doubles as well.

It's an interesting pairing which is a first as we never saw them play together. Rune generally doesn't play doubles that often, and the same can be said for Murray, who usually focuses on singles the most.

The pairing appeared on the doubles entry list of the event alongside some other interesting singles pairings like Sebastian Korda and Grigor Dimitrov, or Ben Shelton and Ugo Humbert.

We'll see how they do, but it could be a good pairing in principle. Both can volley at a decent level and have a solid serve with some decent ball-striking ability as well. The event will run from December 31st till January 7th. Make sure to stick with us for daily coverage.
