Alexander Zverev played a great match to outplay Carlos Alcaraz at the 2022 Roland Garros and move to the semi-finals of the tournament.
The two quarter-final protagonists met already fourth time in ATP Tour-level matches, and second time this year. Their first meeting happened at the Madrid Open a few weeks ago, with the young Spaniard emerging victorious.
In Paris, the outcome of their match was different. It was a great match, in which the German player played the best tennis he played all event long, often dominating against Alcaraz.
While the young Spanish player was spectacular at times, especially towards the end of the match, he couldn't keep up in the early stages of the match, which ultimately cost him the victory.
Zverev controlled the pace well with his strong serving. He was hitting his serve extremely well, and from the baseline, not many balls got past him, and he was able to pass Alcaraz a couple of times when the Spaniard went to the net.
Alcaraz committed 32 unforced errors in the first two sets, which was why Zverev was able to win both of those sets 6-4 to establish a healthy 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, it seemed that Zverev would be able to close out the match, having a break point to serve for the match, Stunningly, however, he lost seven of the following eight points, as Alcaraz stole the second set, winning it 6-4.
The Spaniard continued applying pressure in the fourth set, but this time, Zverev broke his serve and served for the match at 5-4. Still, Alcaraz broke back and ultimately forced a tie-break.
In the tie-break, Alcaraz had a set point, which was even on his serve, but he couldn't use it, as Zverev was able to win the match 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(7), and reach the semi-finals of the 2022 Roland Garros.
