Alexander Zverev played a superb match to down a solid but not great Carlos Alcaraz 6-4 6-4 4-6 7-6(7) moving to the semifinal.

Zverev has reached the semifinal at this year's Roland Garros by taking down Carlos Alcaraz. It was a superb match where the German played the best tennis he played all event long. His opponent, Alcaraz was spectacular at times, especially towards the end of the match but the early stages of the match were not that good.

Zverev controlled the pace well with his strong serving. He was hitting the serve really well, he was practically a wall from the baseline and he was able to pass Alcarza a couple of times when he went to the net. Alcaraz had 32 unforced errors in the first two sets and that's where he probably lost that match. Had he played the way he played towards the end of the 3rd and 4th sets he would have won at least one of them.

This way that 3rd set was just one that prolonged the match a little bit. It came after Zverev practically gifted him the set with a bad service game at 4-5. The final set was another good one. Alcaraz was great early but faltered when he dropped his serve at 4-4. Zverev served for the match at 5-4 but lost his serve. In the tiebreak, he saved a set point at 6-5 eventually closing it out 9-7.
