Carlos Alcaraz is looking really strong at the 2024 Miami Open, which is amazing because only a few weeks ago, it looked like he was going to be out for a while.
Alcaraz didn't have the best Golden Swing, which was unusual. He lost early in Buenos Aires and then rolled his ankle badly at the Rio Open. It looked pretty bad because he limped out of the stadium, which didn't send a promising message.
After undergoing a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Alcaraz was able to confirm that things weren't that bad, and he declared himself ready for the Sunshine Double. Many were skeptical because he had undersold physical problems before, but it doesn't seem like he had lied.
He played amazing tennis at the Indian Wells Open, ending up as the winner of the first ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season, and is now backing it up at the Miami Open.
His most recent win over Lorenzo Musetti might have been the best he's played in recent weeks, but the most important thing is that the ankle is in the rear-view window.
"I don’t know if it’s the best game I’ve played, but without a doubt it’s the best feeling. I’m feeling great on court and moving great. I’m not thinking about the ankle anymore on court. Of course I’m taking care of it every day. I think it’s the best feeling since summer"
When he's fully healthy and playing confidently, Alcaraz is one of the best players in the world, if not the best. He can almost do no wrong on a tennis court.
That's why it's important for him to feel great, which he clearly is this week. He's feeling great and playing well, and he has a chance to book another semi-final in Miami.
He's taking on Grigor Dimitrov next, and if he wins that match, he'll match his result from the year before. His best result came in 2022 when he won the event, and that's certainly not out of the question either.
