Novak Djokovic's enormous lead at the top of the ATP Rankings has been truncated, albeit marginally, for skipping the Adelaide International tournament.
The Serb, who won last year's ATP 250 event before winning the Australian Open for a record-extending 10th time, chose to debut at the United Cup, where he was part of the Serbian team eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Djokovic only earned 60 points in the mixed-gender team competition for scoring two singles wins. He was defending 250 points in the first week, but his lead over Carlos Alcaraz reduced to 2,200 points ahead of the 2024 Australian Open.
Alcaraz could overtake Djokovic at the end of the year's first Grand Slam but must hope the 36-year-old does not retain his crown to stand a chance. Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Jannik Sinner won't play any warm-up ATP tournaments before Melbourne, so the rest of the Top 4 remains unchanged.
Andrey Rublev bagged the Hong Kong Open at the weekend and takes his points tally to 5,010 points. Alexander Zverev motors into sixth spot thanks to his heroics at the United Cup, where Germany etched its name as the champion of the second edition.
There is a new man in the world's Top 10, and his name is Alex de Minaur. The 24-year-old is the first Australian man to hold a Top 10 spot since his idol Lleyton Hewitt in July 2006 and is just the 11th player from his country to achieve this distinction.
De Minaur, who earned a career-best win over Novak Djokovic as Australia made it all the way to the semifinals of the United Cup, eclipses Taylor Fritz, who exits the Top 10. Grigor Dimitrov continues his ascent, moving up a spot to 13th after winning his first ATP title since 2017 in Brisbane.
Another Australian also soared in the latest rankings. Jordan Thompson, who stunned the returning Rafael Nadal in Brisbane, has re-entered the world's Top 50 (47th). At the same time, Finland's Emil Ruusuvuori (50th) joined that band again after his runner-up finish in Hong Kong.
Germany's Dominik Koepfer won the prestigious Canberra Challenger and rose 16 places to occupy the 61st position. James Duckworth's fine run from qualifying to the quarterfinal at his home tournament in Brisbane has earned him a spot in the Top 100.
