Carlos Alcaraz will lead the Spanish Team at the 2023 Davis Cup Finals alongside Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Roberto Bautista Agut.
Alcaraz has already represented Spain in the Davis Cup but he never played in the Davis Cup Finals. The Spaniard opted to play for Spain just days after winning the US Open last year. It didn't go very well as he was beaten by Felix Auger-Aliassime but he was excited about fulfilling a longtime dream of his.
The Spaniard had hopes of playing for Spain at the Davis Cup Finals later that year but an injury forced him to abandon those plans. He missed the ATP Finals because of the same injury though he managed to retain the number one rank at the end of the year.
The plan this year is identical. He wants to play for Spain at the Davis Cup Finals and he was nominated by Team Captain David Ferrer. Alcaraz is the top player on the Spanish team that also features Alejandro Davidovich Fokina alongside experienced veteran Roberto Bautista Agut and doubles specialist Marcel Granollers.
It's a pretty strong Spanish squad that will try to win the Davis Cup Finals, especially with Alcaraz in the squad. Obviously, the hope will be that he remains healthy enough to play but if he does he'll be there. The Davis Cup Finals will be played in two stages.
The first stage will feature nations battling it out in the group stage to earn a place in the knockout phase. That will happen in September and teams that qualify for the knockout phase will play in November in Malaga (quarter-finals, semi-finals, final).
Alcaraz will hope to be there with his teammates so he can lead his nation to another trophy. Playing back home with fans supporting them would be very beneficial.
