The 2024 Cordoba Open will kick off the traditional Golden Swing on South American clay courts and will run from February 5th to 11th.
The entry list for this ATP 250 tournament in Argentina has already been released, with a slew of home players dominating the main draw spots. Argentina's top-ranked player, Francisco Cerundolo, will be the top seed and will demand an improvement from last year's quarterfinal exit.
Cerundolo will face stiff competition from at least three players who have won this tournament in the past, including last year's defending champion, Sebastian Baez, who is the second seed. Albert Ramos Vinolas is a regular visitor to South America in February and has fared brilliantly in the past.
Former champion Cristian Garin is a player who will hope to kick on from his injury nightmare in 2024. The 28-player singles field will play not just for an ATP trophy but also for ranking points and prize money. The tournament has committed a prize money purse amounting to $562,345.
This represents a sharp decrease of about 27% from last year's total. Therefore, players who compete at this event will see drastic changes in their payslips. The champion, for instance, will earn $85,535 in 2024, which is significantly lower than last year when Baez pocketed $97,760.
The runner-up will also take a pay cut and will receive $49,900. The two semifinalists will each bank $29,335, while those who win at least two matches to progress to the quarterfinals will be guaranteed a paycheck worth $16,995.
First-round losers will be compensated prize money amounting to $6,030, while those fortunate enough to go beyond this stage will be expected to earn $9,870.
For points distribution, there will be notable changes in the earlier rounds until the final. The champion, however, will still receive the full 250 ranking points as in previous years. The finalist, meanwhile, will be awarded 165 points.
Semifinalists also receive three-digit ranking points of 100. Quarterfinalists, for their part, will be awarded 50 points. The complete breakdown of prize money and points distribution for the 2024 Cordoba Open is indicated below.
