After saving his country from elimination with his win in singles, Alexander Zverev teamed up with Laura Siegemund to push his country into the semi-finals at the 2024 United Cup.

Friday at the United Cup is all about Alexander Zverev, who proved the hero of his country. The first match between the nations happened early this morning, with Maria Sakkari destroying Angelique Kerber in two simple sets.

That gave Stefanos Tsitsips a chance to seal it for his country but ultimately he couldn't find the tennis needed to down Zverev. A simple two-set win to set up this crucial doubles which featured Zverev but didn't feature Stefanos Tsitsipas.

His brother, Petros, teamed up with Maria Sakkari to play, and they wouldn't have enough. On the other side, we had an inspired Zverev, who did a lot of things right and Laura Siegemund, an experienced player who loves to play doubles.

The result as you can imagine, was the Germans dominating pretty comfortably. The match started well for both teams, without any chances on either side. Slowly but surely, the Germans would take over as the score went from 2-2 to 5-2.

Eventually, they would close out the first set 6-3. The second set wasn't that different as both teams looked comfortable starting, but the Germans slowly pulled away. The Greek team played an okay match and created chances. The problem was that they never really used those chances as opposed to the Germans, who were quite precise with it.

Team Germany also got a boost from Zverev and his serving and just showed better chemistry on the court. The final score was 6-3 6-3 as Germany won 2-1 overall. They move on to the semi-final, where they will play Australia tomorrow. As for Greece, interesting choice not to send out Tsitsipas again. Certainly furthers the notion that his back still bothers him.
