Hubert Hurkacz and Iga Swiatek keep building their doubles chemistry in anticipation of the Olympics by beating Beatriz Haddad Maia and Marcelo Melo to secure the 3-0 win for Poland in the United Cup.
Like last year, Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz are participating in the United Cup, where they represent Poland. It's not the first tennis effort in this new season where they played together as they were in action at the World Tennis League, recently building their chemistry for the 2024 Olympics.
Both will play at that event, and they want to play in the mixed doubles as well, hoping to win medals for their country. This event gives them a perfect chance to practice their already good partnership even more, and it looks pretty good.
Haddad Maia is a fine doubles player, as is Melo, so this was far from an easy match. The start of it certainly backed that up, as the Polish duo couldn't quite find the breakthrough they were hoping for.
They had chances but couldn't really break until the end of the set when they finally found a breakthrough 6-4. The second set was a bit easier as they found a breakthrough early, taking a 2-0 lead.
From there, it was mostly focused on keeping their lead and finishing off the match, which they eventually did. The final score was 6-4 6-3 and it secured Poland's 3-0 win over Brazil, which can have implications for the later stages.
They won by dominating on their serve and playing the crucial rallies better, which is a pretty simple yet effective way to win the match. It's a continuation of good form by Swiatek, who easily bested Haddad Maia earlier in the day.
Hurkacz had more problems in his single match but still won. Poland is one of the favourites to win the competition.
