Francis Roig has been one of the coaches that accompanied Rafael Nadal throughout his career until the 16th of December 2022, when they split.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion announced that they wouldn't be working together anymore and thanked Roig for his contributions. When announcing the split, Nadal released a statement that mentioned:

“Francis is a great coach who knows tennis very well and has helped me a lot to get better and better. I only have words of gratitude and I wish him all the luck in the world in his new project."

As the Spaniard hinted in his statement, Roig left his team to pursue a personal project and now it's already known what that project is, or rather, who that project is.

The Spanish coach started working with former world no. 3 and 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens. The American shared a picture with Roig on social media and added a statement announcing their partnership:

"Happy to have Francis Roig join my team as my new coach! Here's to a successful journey together, let's get to work."
