The Hopman Cup was last held in 2019, when Switzerland defeated Germany for their fourth title, and it has been missing from the calendars since then, but it will return in 2023 again.

The Hopman Cup is one of the most popular team competitions. While men enjoy the Davis Cup and women the Billie Jean King Cup, having a chance to play together in a mixed-team event is special, which is why the tournament used to be so popular.

However, since 2020, the ATP Cup replaced the Hopman Cup in the calendar. Men still had a chance to play in a team competition at the start of the season, but the WTA players lost a chance to enjoy some team competition in Australia.

In December 2022, the United Cup will start in Australia, and while tennis fans thought that it would replace the Hopman Cup, that couldn't be further from the truth. The Hopman Cup will also be held in 2023, and it won't be in Australia.

For the first time in the event's history, it will be held outside of Australia and it will be in France. The ITF reached a five-year deal with Tennium, with the event being hosted in Nice, France, from July 19th to 23rd. The Nice Lawn Tennis Club will host the event until 2027.

The ITF President David Haggerty was delighted to announce the launch of the new team competition.

"The Hopman Cup, as a unique mixed-team event, has always enjoyed a special place in the hearts of tennis fans, and I am sure that spectators in Nice will relish the chance to see some of the world's top men and women players on the same court."

In 2023 and 2024, the event should be attended by six countries. France should be granted one of the spots as hosts. From 2025, the Hopman Cup should be expanded to eight countries.
