Djokovic & Swiatek Confirmed As Top Seeds Ahead Of 2024 Australian Open Draw

by Zachary Wimer

The 2024 Australian Open draw is coming up shortly, and Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek are the top seeds at the event.

We're just days away from the start of the first Grand Slam of the season. The Australian Open comes up so quickly every year, as it literally begins in week three of the new season.

It's a pretty exciting time in tennis as fans and players alike are really buzzing to get a new season underway, and it usually delivers some really good tennis.

One of the first things we found out about the Australian Open, after the record-high prize money, was who the seeds were. It's a big deal because it directly impacts the draw.

Men's defending champion, Novak Djokovic, is the top seed on the men's side. Carlos Alcaraz was confirmed as the second seed, Daniil Medvedev as the 3rd seed, followed by Jannik Sinner at 4, Andrey Rublev at 5, Alexander Zverev at 6, Stefanos Tsitsipas at 7, and Holger Rune at 8.

The top eight seeds are usually the most important, as they are usually expected to shape up the quarterfinal line-up. On the women's side, Iga Swiatek is the number one seed, and defending champion, Aryna Sabalenka is number two.

After them, Elena Rybakina will be the third seed, Coco Gauff at 4, Jessica Pegula fifth, Ons Jabeur at 6, Marketa Vondrousova as the seventh seed and after Karolina Muchova's withdrawal, Maria Sakkari will be the eighth seed.

Obviously, the full list of seeds includes 32 names on both sides, as those players will have an advantage of not facing each other in the first two rounds.

Another thing that the seedings confirm is that Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz won't play until the final because of the seedings. The same thing can be said for the women's side, as Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka can only meet in the final if they both make it.
