Venus Williams Remains Winless In 2024 After Losing At Miami Open

Venus Williams remained winless in 2024 after losing her second match this year, this time at the 2024 Miami Open.

The 43-year-old made a comeback to tennis at the 2024 Indian Wells Open and played a really solid match but lost to Nao Hibino in three sets. Obviously, it was a disappointing result for the American but fans were hopeful that things would look better at the Miami Open.

The draw wasn't very kind because she got a very tricky, very young, and energetic player, which ultimately did prove a problem. Diana Shnaider can trouble the best opponents, and she did give Williams a lot of problems.

Venus once again demonstrated good hitting ability, but the young Russian was able to overwhelm her opponent simply by being younger and faster. There wasn't enough bounce in Williams's step to really counter what Shnaider did well.

6-3 was the score in the opening set, in which Williams mostly struggled with her second serve. She won very few points after her second serve and allowed six break points, saving only three of those.

Shnaider, for the most part, did really well on her serve and allowed only one break point, which she didn't save. The second set opened with an early break for Williams, but the joy was short-lasting because the Russian was able to break back immediately.

Williams broke her opponent once more for the 2-1 lead, and this time around, she nearly held for the 3-1 lead. Still, her opponent broke back to make it 2-2, and even though the American kept fighting after that disappointment, she couldn't really do much anymore as Shnaider cruised to the finish line.

The final score ended up being 6-3 6-3, for the Russian player, in what was a decent fight from Venus but not enough to beat the youngster.
