Top 5 Underdogs To Watch In Women's Draw At 2023 US Open

| by Evita Mueller

The upcoming US Open will give a chance to many players to do something good, but a couple of them, like Mirra Andreeva, stick out.

Due to various factors, the upcoming US Open promises to be an excellent event. It's the final Grand Slam of the year, and it generally features stellar fan support and significant media coverage, making it a rather unique experience on the WTA Tour.

Plenty of players will pass through the gates of Flushing Meadows, and we bring you some underdogs that might do great things in the upcoming fortnight. Although it's clear who are the top favourites, there's always a chance of major upset.

5. Leylah Fernandez

As a former finalist at this event, Leylah Fernandez has nothing but good memories of New York. Her career didn't quite go as many thought it would after the final, though she's looked pretty good lately. If she continues to play well, then there is a good chance that she will rediscover her form and go deep once more.

4. Katie Boulter

When you think of British tennis, Katie Boulter might not be the first name, but she's a player who's been doing well for a very long time and has plenty of experience. That experience matters on the big stage, and this season has been great. She has the tools and the experience, so anything could happen.

3. Alycia Parks

Alycia Parks was one of the breakout stars of the early part of the season, winning her maiden trophy. The American failed to replicate that level since then, but on home soil, anything can happen. She'll have the crowd backing her and has a solid game that can hurt anyone.

2. Danielle Collins

Danielle Collins is a very experienced player who contested a Grand Slam final before. She was spectacular in Montreal recently and certainly will have things to say back home. If she finds a good rhythm and wins a couple of matches, she'll be a player to watch in the draw.

1. Mirra Andreeva

The Russian was quite impressive at the two previous Grand Slams, qualifying for both and then winning a couple of matches. She doesn't have to play the qualifiers in New York which will only help her enter the event with fresh legs. If she finds her best tennis, she's certainly a threat for the second week and perhaps even more after that.
