Swiatek finds another victim of her thrashing in Dubai opener

It's nearly impossible to find an opponent for Iga Swiatek on the WTA Tour, and yet another player just experienced how strong the world no. 1 is.

Iga Swiatek started the 2023 season in a dominant style. Despite losing in the fourth round in Melbourne, the young Pole lifted her first trophy of the season in Qatar, while losing only five games en route to the title.

Soon after her triumph, she moved from Doha to Dubai, where Swiatek competes at the 2023 Dubai Championships. After a first-round bye, the Pole took on 2021 US Open finalist, Leylah Fernandez, in the second round.

The Canadian showed her qualities many times on the WTA Tour, but not against Swiatek. The Pole won the first four games of the match, and she was set to bagel yet another opponent.

However, Fernandez broke back from 40-15 on Swiatek's serve to win one game in the first match. Despite stopping the world no. 1 for a moment, she was not able to cause any more damage, as the three-time Grand Slam champion won the first set 6-1.

In the second set, Swiatek dominated once again. She broke her opponent's serve three more times to win the match 6-1, 6-1 and set up a third-round clash with the fourteenth-seeded Liudmila Samsonova.
