Sofia Kenin added yet another competition to her calendar as she received a wild card for the 2023 Charleston Open.
The 2023 Charleston Open, set to unfold on the picturesque Daniel Island next month, will welcome a star-studded roster of players, including 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, who has been granted a main-draw wild card entry.
With an impressive lineup featuring five top 10 players and a bevy of Grand Slam champions, the upcoming WTA 500 event promises a thrilling spectacle for tennis enthusiasts, and it will run from April 3rd to 9th, 2023.
Kenin's wild card entry positions her alongside fellow Grand Slam victors Aryna Sabalenka, Victoria Azarenka, Sloane Stephens, and Jelena Ostapenko, enriching the Charleston Open's competitive landscape.
“Adding Sofia to our already strong player field reinforces the level of talent that will be on display in April at the Credit One Charleston Open. As a Grand Slam champion and former top 10 player, we are happy to support her return to tennis competition after injuries.”
“Our attendees are in for a great nine days of tennis in April, where the best in women’s tennis will be in competition at the Credit One Stadium.”
Over the past few years, Kenin demonstrated that she's one of the best players on the WTA Tour, but after finishing in the Top 15 every year from 2019 until 2021, the American was ranked out of the Top 200 at the end of the 2022 season.
But now, in 2023, she's hoping to regain some of her previous form back. After recently beating Sloane Stephens in Indian Wells, and the likes of Liudmila Samsonova in Doha, and Anhelina Kalinina in Hobart, Kenin can certainly return to her old level soon or later, and she will hope that the clay-court part of the season will help her achieve that goal.
