Serena Williams' US Open Semifinal dress to be auctioned off in Los Angeles

Serena Williams has played in countless memorable matches over the years, and she is now auctioning off the outfit she wore during one of her US Open battles.

It is nearly a year since the 23-time Grand Slam champion competed on the WTA Tour. Her last match was at last year's Wimbledon, where she retired with an injury after falling on the grass at SW19.

Williams has been sidelined ever since because of that injury. Unfortunately, she was not on the entry list for this year's Wimbledon, although the American could still play if she is fit and the tournament gives her a wild card.

The 40-year-old's adoring home fans will be desperate for her to be fit for the US Open. Last year's event at Flushing Meadows felt strange without Williams, and the spectacle will certainly be better if she plays in New York.

For now, her fans will reminisce about her past matches throughout her legendary career. Many of these have been at the US Open, which Williams has won on six occasions.

Her 2011 US Open semifinal victory is now in the news because, as the Daily Mail reported, the outfit Williams wore during that match is being auctioned off.
