"I just want to be the best version of myself" - Emma Raducanu ahead of Wimbledon

| by Drew Tate

As Wimbledon approaches, the name Emma Raducanu is garnering more and more interest from media around the globe.

The British tennis sensation made her breakthrough in tennis last year at Wimbledon seemingly out of nowhere. She made it to the 4th round retiring in her match against Tomljanovic due to breathing issues. It was the start of a career that would experience a dramatic rise a couple of months later in New York where she became the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam event.

Now, almost a year later since her initial breakthrough, Raducanu is entering Wimbledon with the hopes of a nation on her back. Tremendous pressure is mounting and remembering last year Raducanu understands that the opportunity at Wimbledon last year was a kickstarter for everything.

The Wimbledon experience was certainly very valuable for me. Never really felt anything like it. Maybe without that opportunity, I wouldn't have been able to make the qualifying of the US Open. Just playing there in front of home support, it's definitely my favourite tournament.

She will be closely followed at the event with many hoping she might shock the world once more. It's unlikely, especially with how up and down her level has been this year and the physical struggles but for Raducanu tennis is more than just winning events.

A competitor by heart, she also understands the responsibility as a role model and it's something that holds a lot of meaning to her.

It means a lot to think that I would inspire young players. I feel like I just wanna be the best version of myself out there and show young girls that tennis can bring a lot of possibilities.
