Gauff Targets Olympics Medal In 2024 With Aim To Play All Three Events

| by Zachary Wimer

Coco Gauff has many goals for 2024, and one of them is winning an Olympic Medal in Paris during the 2024 Olympics.

Gauff's first Grand Slam final wasn't the one in New York she played and won a few months ago. It was actually the Roland Garros a year earlier, which was actually a losing effort against Iga Swiatek.

It did prove that Gauff can go deeply on clay, as it's a surface that works really well with her athleticism. She also made the doubles final that year with Jessica Pegula but also lost.

Those experiences will be crucial for this year, though, as the Roland Garros and the Olympics will be both held this year. Both of those events will be played on the same courts, and Gauff will be in the mix for both.

She wants a medal from Paris; that was one of the goals she wrote down before the season started, and she opened up about it ahead of the 2024 Australian Open, where she's set to compete in her first major since becoming a Grand Slam winner.

"Yeah, one of the goals I wrote down on my vision thing, vision note - in my phone - was to win a medal in the Olympics. For me, I'll be completely honest, I don't really care what event it is in. I feel like a gold, silver, or bronze, whatever medal it is, is one of those things it doesn't matter."

It's pretty cool to see that Gauff isn't really concerned with which medal she wins as long as she gets one. She has a dream scenario but would be okay with anything that happens.

"Well, it does matter. Obviously I want to win in singles. I feel like I would appreciate it just as much whether it was in singles or doubles. It's not the same to me as a slam I guess in a way. I just put I want a medal at any of the events. Ideally I would want to play all three."

"We'll have to see where I fall in the lineup of ranking-wise and all of that. Yeah, that definitely is a priority. The Olympics have been a priority in both singles and doubles."
