Coco Gauff has played Iga Swiatek a number of times, and she'll play her once more at the 2023 WTA Finals in Cancun.
Gauff and Swiatek have played a couple of matches in their young careers already and will play one more at the upcoming WTA Finals. Gauff won only one match so far, and it was the one at the Cincinnati Masters recently.
The most recent one was at the China Open, and once again, it was a pretty convincing win for Swiatek. She's generally dominated Gauff with ease in most of their matches, but the gap is shortening as of recently.
We'll see how the upcoming one goes, but Gauff had a lot of praise for the Polish player after her impressive win over Tunisia's Ons Jabeur in her first match.
"She’s a tough player for anyone to play, but especially with my game. I found a little bit of it in Cincinnati. In Beijing it was tough for me. I was dealing with a little bit of an injury there.. she’s a tough player & she’s definitely one of the best players in our generation."
"I think for me, the more I can play against her, the more I can get better. After each time I play her I do learn and get better whether it’s a win or a loss. Hopefully this time I’d love to get a win on our head to head.. At this rate, we’ll probably have the most matches ever at the end of our careers."
There is a pretty healthy rivalry there between them, and it's going to help them both move forward. We've seen how rivalries shaped the careers of many players, and when you have two very competitive players like these two, then it can only benefit both.
Fans love their matches so the more we get the better it is. Hopefully we see plenty of more in the future.
