16-year-old tennis phenom Mirra Andreeva won't be considered a talent for much longer as she's an established player by now, one ranked inside the Top 100 on the WTA Tour.
Mirra Andreeva literally came out of nowhere for many fans, stunning Leylah Fernandez in the Madrid Open. The then 15-year-old then added her first Top 15 win over Beatriz Haddad Maia at the same event, and fans quickly understood that this girl was different.
She turned 16 at the event and lost to Aryna Sabalenka but continued playing well advancing through the Roland Garros qualifiers to book a spot in the main draw. She won a couple of matches, ultimately losing to Coco Gauff. Wimbledon was a similar experience for the teenager as she went through the qualifiers once more.
There weren't any problems for the youngster despite a lack of experience on the surface as she booked the main draw and then made a solid run until she ran into Madison Keys. It was an unfortunate exit for the Russian who won the opening set in that match but even so, it was a great run.
One that finally got her among the best players in the world as she is finally ranked inside the Top 100. She makes her Top 100 debut at number 66 after earning 240 points for the fourth-round appearance at Wimbledon. That total is almost half of the number of points she had leading up to the event, and she jumped up by 36 places.
It's a great thing for Andreeva, who won't have to play the qualifiers at the US Open and then the Australian Open after that. While the experience of playing qualifiers generally suits a young player, she's already got some big wins under her belt, so she doesn't need those matches.
She needs competitive matches among the best players in the main draw and this jump will allow her that.
