2024 Italian Open Rome WTA Draw With Swiatek, Sabalenka, Gauff & More

| by Erik Virostko

The 2024 Italian Open is a WTA 1000 tournament that will run from May 7th to 19th, and the draw for the event was already released.

The recently-ended Madrid Open treated fans to the best possible final, as the two highest-ranked players clashed in an epic match. In Rome, they will be hoping for a similar ending, as both Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka will be looking to recreate their success from the Spanish capital.

Traditionally, the Pole is the top seed at the event, and since all seeded players have a first-round bye, she can look towards her second-round match, which will be against either a qualifier or Caroline Dolehide.

On the other side of the draw is Sabalenka, who will also start her tournament in the second round, taking on the winner of the match between a qualifier and Yafan Wang.

But there will also be their third rival competing at the Italian Open, and on top of that, as the defending champion, Elena Rybakina, proved to be better than everyone else in Rome last year.

This year, she starts the tournament as the fourth seed, looking at a matchup against the winner of the match between Irina-Camelia Begu and a qualifier.

If there's one player that shouldn't be discounted, it's certainly the third-seeded Coco Gauff, who will be looking to forget Madrid disappointment, and she will get a chance to do that in the second round against Magdalena Frech or Ashlyn Krueger.

Thanks to multiple players being ranked lower than their real level due to injuries, pregnancies, or different reasons, there will be also many interesting first-round matches in Rome.

Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka wants to prove her clay-court qualities, and she can do that in the first round against Clara Burel.
