The 2022 Chennai Open is one of the two events held right after the US Open and it features an interesting field of players that will compete from September 12th through 18th.
WTA 250 events usually give a chance to lower-ranked players to get some valuable points and it will be no different at the 2022 Chennai Open. But also former world number 5, Eugenie Bouchard will compete at the event as she's trying to make a come back.
It will be a first main draw of a WTA event for the 28-years-old Canadian this year. On her debut, she will meet Joanne Zuger from Switzerland who was never ranked higher than she's currently (no. 163).
First-seeded player at the event is Alison Riske who is the only player from Top 60 of the WTA Rankings that is taking part at the event. In the first round, she will take on Anastasia Gasanova from Russia.
Former world number 12, Yanina Wickmayer is also competing at the 2022 Chennai Open as she used her protected ranking. The Belgian will play against Qiang Wang in the first round.
Some interesting first-round matches include the meeting between the second-seeded Varvara Gracheva and Mariia Tkacheva or no. 5 Rebecca Peterson and Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva.
