Alcaraz & Fritz First Two Players To Sign Up For 2025 Laver Cup

Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz were the first two players chosen by their team captains for the 2025 Laver Cup in San Francisco.

The Laver Cup continues to be the most prestigious exhibition tournament on the ATP Tour. This year, Team Europe returned to winning ways, and it was mostly thanks to Alcaraz, who powered the team to most of their points.

The Spaniard collected eight points out of 13 that Team Europe collected, rightfully being called the country's most valuable player (MVP). He made his debut at the event in 2024, and he will return also in 2025.

After the Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany, hosted the tournament in 2024, it will move to the Chase Center in San Francisco, United States, in 2025, running from September 19th to September 21st.

The 2025 edition will start a new chapter in Laver Cup's history, as it will be for the first time that team captains John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg won't lead their teams.

Team Europe will be captained by Yannick Noah, who is the 1983 French Open champion and a former World No. 3. Noah was naturally happy to welcome the current World No. 3 player, Alcaraz, in his team.

"Carlos is a once-in-a-generation talent. His speed, energy and ability to rise in big moments are unmatched and I’m thrilled to have him with us on Team Europe. He inspires everyone around him and his presence on the team makes us stronger."

Alcaraz, who debuted at the Laver Cup in 2024, hugely enjoyed the team format of the competition, and, therefore, he didn't hesitate when he was offered a chance to compete also in 2025.

"It was great being part of Team Europe at the Laver Cup in Berlin this year. To have all the players I’m used to fighting against together, on the bench supporting me, sharing the same goal – to lift the trophy – is unique. I found it really motivating. I loved the Laver Cup energy, the environment, the atmosphere, and I can’t wait to be part of it again in San Francisco."

Andre Agassi, on the other hand, will be the captain of Team World. The former World No. 1 player, who is also a seven-time singles champion, chose Taylor Fritz for his team, a player who first competed in 2019.

"Taylor has been a force for Team World, and his commitment to the Laver Cup is undeniable. He loves the team element of the competition and thrives in this unique format. He’s had an incredible season and I’m excited to know he’s ready to lead the charge for us at home in San Francisco next September."

Fritz, like many American players, thrives in the team environment, so accepting an invitation to compete at the 2025 Laver Cup in front of the home crowd was a no-brainer for him.

"I am pumped to represent Team World once again. The atmosphere, camaraderie, team chemistry and excitement of the Laver Cup is unlike any other tournament. I’m sure the energy will be amazing and hopefully the home fans will come out in force to support us in San Francisco. We really want the Laver Cup back!"
