Fabio Fognini has been making the news lately over his claims, and he's not done yet adding more gas to the fire.
The Davis Cup Finals are coming up, and Italy are hosting their group in Bologna. The country hopes to book their spot in the competition's knockout stages, but they're going to have to do that without their best players.
Matteo Berrettini is out due to an ankle injury, and Jannik Sinner also withdrew due to fatigue. That leaves the country severely depleted. Fabio Fognini expected a call-up, and while it came initially, he was later dropped in favour of another player who was deemed more reliable at the moment.
The Italian was furious and ranted about it on social media, prompting Team Captain Filippo Volandri to respond to the claims. As expected, they have vastly different accounts of what transpired, but the end result of it all is that Fognini won't play for Italy in Bologna.
He's playing elsewhere in Italy, though, taking part in the Genoa ATP Challenger this week. He's made it all the way to the final, which is scheduled for later on Sunday, and after beating Thiago Monteiro in the semi-final, Fognini sent a message.
He picked up the phone and slammed it down in what seemed to be a middle finger to the Italian Tennis Federation or Volandri himself. He basically did a famous Ben Shelton celebration in Genoa, as the celebration is rather famous right now, especially after Djokovic did it to the youngster.
Expect it to pop up more and more around the world, and it will be interesting to see whether it becomes the new dab or something like that. Either way, check out the Italian version of the celebration below. We'll see if he brings it out again, of course, if he wins the final.
