Novak Djokovic is gearing up for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics and he wants to win one of the few tournaments that he has never won.
Djokovic has been vocal about his excitement for the event and his desire to compete on the clay courts of the Roland Garros stadium. For Djokovic, the Olympics hold a special place in his heart. He has previously won a bronze medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and a silver medal in the 2012 London Olympics. However, he has yet to secure a gold medal, which is something that he is determined to accomplish in the upcoming event.
Djokovic's familiarity with the Roland Garros stadium and clay courts will undoubtedly work in his favor, but there's one person that knows those courts even better, his main rival, Rafael Nadal.
"I look forward to Olympics. You mentioned Olympics. I hope that I'll be able to play healthy for next year in Paris Olympic Games. It's going to be played on clay in Roland Garros, so I'm familiar with those grounds."
However, Djokovic's success on the court is not just attributed to his physical abilities. His mental preparation is equally important. Djokovic's approach to mental preparation is centered around setting clear goals for himself and maintaining a strong desire to succeed. He attributes this approach to the key people in his life, including his parents and coaches, who instilled this mindset in him at an early age.
"Well, desire has been always there. I mean, without desire, I feel like there's no motion in any sense of that word. So I always try to be very clear with myself what the goals are, what I want from tennis, competitive tennis. This is the way I've been brought up and been taught by some of the key people in my life, of course including my parents and some of the coaches I had early on."
"This kind of mentality really helped me to always be so devoted to the game. I always remind myself that it's the willpower, the desire to succeed that's essential ingredient in the whole formula."
