Jannik Sinner has been the best player in 2024, and his ranking improvements only prove that, as he's set to reach a new career high.
Only recently, the 22-year-old made it to his new career high, which was the third place. It was clear that the top four on the ATP Tour will be occupied by Sinner, Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Jannik Sinner, but the order would depend on their form.
Sinner is by far in the best form, and that's why he already managed to jump over Medvedev but also Alcaraz, which he managed to do thanks to beating Grigor Dimitrov in the final of the 2024 Miami Open. That means, on Monday, he will become the new world no. 2.
The Italian was asked about the moment also during the press conference after the match, when the moderator made a funny mistake, saying he would become a new world no. 1, to what Sinner reacted.
"No, No. 1? Unforced error. (Laughter.)"
After that, he explained how much the achievement means to him, saying he comes from a normal family, and why every tournament victory is special to him, even though he has won already three in 2024.
"No, for sure it means a lot to me, but more importantly, it was a great performance for me, especially in that semifinal and final, which for me it's more important. Being No. 2, it's an amazing feeling. I never thought to come to this point."
"I come from a very normal family. My dad is still working, as my mom, too. For me, it's, you know, sport is one thing, and life is different. I'm very happy to be in this position. I'm just enjoying every moment. These are special days winning a tournament. Doesn't matter what kind of tournament, it's a special day. It means a lot to me."
