The tournament organizers of the 2024 Brisbane International were able to secure two more high-profile players, Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina, who are set to join Naomi Osaka at the event.
The current season is over, which means that the focus slowly shifts towards the new season. We're not far away from it because, technically, it will start with a few exhibitions in the coming weeks but won't officially start until a few days before New Year's.
One of those first events on the calendar will be the 2024 Brisbane International, which generally features a pretty good field as most players are looking for an early start to the year, but was missing from the calendar for a few seasons.
Naomi Osaka was one of the first players confirmed at the event but won't be the only high-profile player there. Aryna Sabalenka started her 2023 campaign in Adelaide but will do so in Brisbane in 2024 as she signed up for the WTA 500 event.
It's the same case for Rybakina, who also started her year in Adelaide but will make it in Brisbane this year. These two players were the best ones in Australia last year as they contested the 2023 Australian Open final.
That final was referenced by Sabalenka in her confirmation of participation, as she called Australia a very special place for her. Let's see how this year goes.
I’m excited about starting my 2024 Australian season in Brisbane. Australia holds a special place in my heart after winning my first Grand Slam there. I can’t wait to make my debut at the Brisbane International and play in front of the Queensland tennis fans. It’s a tournament that’s attracted so many good players in the past and I’m hoping it will set me up for another successful summer.
