Carlos Alcaraz will face Novak Djokovic in the 2023 Wimbledon final on Sunday, and he's as confident as ever.
The moment that all tennis fans had waited for. The two highest-ranked players on the ATP Tour will meet in the final of the third Grand Slam tournament of the season. They met only once at a major before, and it was a cramped end for Alcaraz, who was bested by a more experienced opponent.
This time, the situation will be different. Already during the event, Alcaraz said that the next time he faces the Serb, the same situation wouldn't happen again, and he doubled down on his words after an impressive three-set victory over Daniil Medvedev.
When asked about meeting Novak Djokovic, who defeated Jannik Sinner in his semifinal match, the 20-year-old Spaniard acknowledged the greatness of his final competitor, who is yet to lose on the Centre Court since 2013.
"What can I say? Everybody knows. It's gonna be really, really difficult. But I will fight; that's myself. I will believe in myself, I will believe that I can beat him here. I saw that he's undefeated since 2013 on this court, so it's going to be a really tough challenge for me."
But even despite respecting his final opponent, Alcaraz approaches the final in a confident way, as he always does. According to his own words, there is no time to be afraid or tired, he'll simply go for it and try to outplay the 36-year-old Serb.
"But I'm ready for this. I have dreamed since I started playing tennis to play the final at this event, even more, special against Novak. But it's a final, it's not time to be afraid, it's not time to be tired, I will go for it and let's see what happens."
