Nick Kyrgios, one of the most talented players on the ATP Tour, has withdrawn from the 2023 Australian Open due to a knee injury.
The news comes as a huge disappointment to fans who were eagerly awaiting his return to Melbourne, where he has had some of his most memorable moments on the court. Last year, Kyrgios triumphed in doubles alongside his friend Thanasi Kokkinakis, and this year, he wanted to prove his qualities also in singles.
“I’m just exhausted from everything. Obviously pretty brutal. One of the most important tournaments of my career. Hasn’t been easy at all. There’s a mixture of emotions … just bad timing, but that’s life. Injuries are part of the sport.”
The Australian Open, which began on January 16th, is the first Grand Slam tournament of the year and one of the most prestigious events in tennis. Kyrgios has had a strong showing at the tournament in the past, reaching the quarterfinals in 2015 and the fourth round in 2018 and 2020.
Kyrgios' withdrawal will also be a blow to the tournament organizers, as he is a player who draws a lot of attention and generates a lot of buzz on and off the court. The Australian Open is one of the most popular and most-watched tennis tournaments in the world, and the absence of Kyrgios will be felt by the organizers and fans alike.
Now, Kyrgios will have to go through a proper treatment and rehabilitation process to recover from the injury and make a comeback on the tour. He is expected to be back in action in Indian Wells, as he previously stated that he doesn't intend to play any events right after the Australian Open.
In the meantime, we wish Nick Kyrgios a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the court soon.
