Daniil Medvedev is the biggest favourite to grab one of the three remaining spots at the 2022 ATP Finals and he made yet another step in the right direction.
The 26-years-old Russian, who started this year as world no. 2 but also climbed to the 1st spot in the ATP Rankings, faced one of the challengers for a spot at the year-end event, Jannik Sinner. The Italian needed to win more than his Russian opponent, who would need to be really unlucky to not qualify.
However, Medvedev doesn't want luck to play any factor and he showed it in his match against the Italian. He started with a break in the first game and kept his advantage throughout the set with solid serving to eventually win it 6-4.
In the second set, the 2021 US Open champion was even more dominant. He used both of break point opportunities he got and while winning 88% of the points after his first serve, he cruised towards a swift 6-4, 6-2 win in an hour and 33 minutes.
In the semifinals of the 2022 Vienna Open, Medvedev will meet Grigor Dimitrov, who is playing really well and defeated the third-seeded Andrey Rublev on his way to final four.
