Jannik Sinner Set To Reach New Career High After Stunning Carlos Alcaraz In China

| by Evita Mueller

Jannik Sinner played a fabulous match to take down Carlos Alcaraz at the 2023 China Open, and he'll debut a new career high on the ATP Tour after the event.

Back at Wimbledon, Jannik Sinner lost to Novak Djokovic in three sets but admitted after the match that he was closer to winning than the year before. It was an odd statement on surface value because he won sets against Djokovic the previous year, but he wasn't talking about the score but his approach.

His approach has been miles better compared to last year; it's what allowed him to put together a really strong year, one you could consider a type of breakout. He's been rather consistent; he finally won a big trophy, and he's playing these big matches really well.

The most recent one came over Carlos Alcaraz as he completely outplayed him. The win didn't just send him to the China Open final, but it also ensured a new career-high ranking for him. It's yet another proof of the type of season he's had and how consistent he's been.

With the points earned in Beijing and some other players struggling, Sinner will debut at number four in the rankings next week. That's a new career high ranking after his previous high of number six.

It will represent a jump of 3 spots, and it doesn't matter if he wins or loses the final. He'll be the 4th best-ranked player behind Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Daniil Medvedev. He's trailing the Russian by quite a bit, almost 3,000 points, and he'll only barely be ahead of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Holger Rune, and Andrey Rublev, but he'll be ahead.

If he can win the trophy in Beijing, it would only make the whole experience even more competitive because, in the end, he's after the trophies, and he lost a final to Medvedev earlier this year, so revenge is on the table.
