'I Don’t Think I Could’ve Done Much More': Djokovic Recognizes Alcaraz's Wimbledon Superiority

| by Zachary Wimer

Novak Djokovic didn't play his best tennis in the 2024 Wimbledon Championships final, but he's adamant that he gave it his all.

We shouldn't doubt that Djokovic gave it his all in the 2024 Wimbledon Championships final against Carlos Alcaraz, even if he lost in three sets. The Serbian is not one to give up, and he generally gives it his all.

He certainly tried his best in the final match at SW19 this year, but his Spanish opponent was just too good. The first two sets were sets where Alcaraz played superb tennis, leaving Djokovic very little to fight for.

The third set was much closer, but that's because the 37-year-old likely played as best as he could possibly do, and it was still not enough. After the match, during the press conference, Djokovic admitted that he gave it his all and didn't know what else he could have done to try to win the match.

"The way I felt on the court today against him, I was inferior on the court. He was a better player. That’s it. He played every single shot better than I did. I don’t think I could’ve done much more… he wasn’t allowing me to have free points on my serve. He played with a lot of variety."

"I’ve never seen him serve that way. 136. I’ve never seen him serve that fast. He must’ve had a really good serving practice day yesterday. He really outplayed me… he was better than me in every aspect of the game."

As someone who has outplayed his opponents often, the Serbian knows that sometimes you're just better than the opponent. It's certainly uncomfortable to find yourself on the wrong side of that, but when it happens, the best thing to do is just accept opponent's qualities and move on, and that's exactly what Djokovic did.
