Ahead of the US Open in New York, Stefanos Tsitsipas has praised Mark Philippoussis as the ideal fit for his coaching staff.
Following Philippoussis' introduction to his squad by Tsitsipas' father and coach Apostolos, the world No. 5 and Philippoussis have developed a deeper bond in recent months. The group was spotted at Flushing Meadows as Stan Wawrinka was hitting with them.
“There seems to be a good balance between them. My dad has a lot of respect for him,” said Tsitsipas to Eurosport adding: “He brought Mark into the team. It was not my decision. I have a great relationship with him as well. I thought from the start that he’s the right fit.”
Due to the excessive humidity in New York, Tsitsipas stirred much controversy last year by changing his clothes and using bathroom breaks in each match. Tsitsipas brought up the subject once more and stressed the factor of the humidity for outcome of the event:
“I find the conditions here much more hot and humid than in Cincinnati. My physical condition will be very important, starting strong in this tournament. I think we’re dealing now with best-of-five sets, which is physically very demanding." said Tsitsipas further saying:
"Everyone fights for this one
trophy, including myself. Everyone wants to push themselves to the
fullest, to the maximum. The competition is going to be very high from
every single player.”
